Footwork, Volleys, & Serves, Oh My!!

All of that was going on Saturday morning as new Above the Net Coach Guy Reddick and Assistant Coach Tyler Ladge put the juniors through the paces. They started the morning with the ladder and the cones...two tools for footwork training that are a must... and also quite intimidating! Yet the younger kids and the older kids all took it in stride and did their best to make it down/ across the ladder and through the cones without knocking them over!! But footwork was not the only area of focus this weekend. At one point all of the kids were lined up at the net to practice both forehand and backhand volleys and boy did they nail that drill! Finally, it was time to practice serves. They were tapping their backs with the racket and trying to make contact as they released the ball up. Serves is probably one of the toughest skills to master but you have to start somewhere and the kids were certainly trying on Saturday. At 12:00 when it was technically time for the clinic to end the little ones (was it Caroline? Zoe? Laila?) not sure...started asking about the Alligator Game. So we couldn't leave without playing it. They knew exactly what to do and had fun hitting that ball and catching the balls depending on what side of the net they were!! All in all, more skills were learned, fun was had, exercise was achieved! See ya next week!

There was not stopping Carolina, Zoe and Laila. A Saturday morning without Alligator was not happening.
